Counsellor Development Workshops


Graduate Diploma of Counselling (GDC16)

To ensure satisfaction of the 2009 training standards of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), students undertaking the Graduate Diploma of Counselling who study by Flexible Delivery, must attend three separate weeks of face to face Counsellor Development Workshops (CDW's) over the duration of their course. These workshops provide students with a highly dynamic and interactive opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge learned. They are held regularly at the Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne campuses.

Each workshop has a number of pre-requisites outlined in the table below.

Theory and Practice of Supervision and a Student Placement (minimum of 100 hours)

Students who complete a minimum of three (3) of the following list of units through On Campus study are exempt from attending the Counsellor Development Workshops:

Students who have completed the Counsellor Development Workshops in the Graduate Diploma (GDC16) are also exempt from the workshops.

Please note that it is recommended to attend these workshops regardless of whether you are studying on campus or by Flexible Delivery as they are a great opportunity to practice your skills.


Bookings

Attendance

Students may be absent for up to 1 day of the CD Workshop program, only if there are extenuating circumstances – that is, 1 day in total from the full 3 weeks. Students must show supporting documentation for their absence such as a medical certificate. If a student misses more than one day, they will be required to repeat the workshop. This is to ensure that the student meets the hourly requirement of face to face learning as set by PACFA.
